Educational OutreachAs a part of its mission, Manassas Ballet Theatre annually presents up to
eight Educational Outreach performances reaching several thousand area
students. Each performance consists of an hour to 90 minute show by the
professional dancers of Manassas Ballet Theatre. Typically, excerpts
from a recent or upcoming MBT performance are used. Besides seeing
world-class professional ballet up close, the students learn something
of the background and history of the art form and that particular piece.
In addition, the students get to learn about the dancers and their lives
through a Q&A session. In all, the students receive a broadening
cultural experience of which few would otherwise have the opportunity.
These performances are provided free of charge to the students
and school.
Performance costs such as the administrative time/expense in scheduling
the performances, costumes, scenery, props and music are borne by MBT as
a part of the Company's operating budget.
Looking into the future, the Company is teaming with the Manassas and
Prince William County public schools on a long term arts education
strategy that will be nothing short of revolutionary for the schools,
their students and MBT. Modeled on the excellent "Minds In Motion"
program presented by Richmond Ballet and partnering with the National
Dance Institute, the Company has as its target to present a weekly class
at every elementary school in the participating school districts.
